Help for refugees moving to NUNA

Neighbors, a group of us in NUNA are joining forces to help support two families of refugees from Afghanistan who’ve just moved into the neighborhood on 31st. With apologies for mass unsolicited email, I am reaching out to people I know in the neighborhood with school-aged kids in case you want to help. Here are two ways you can:

1. Luke and Cole are running a donation at their school starting today through Nov. 15. We’d be happy to include items donated by neighbors if you have any of the following and want to leave them on our front porch any time at your convenience:

– Gently used shoes, jackets and/or any clothing for girls ages 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17 & 18 and/or boys, ages 5, 9, 10, 11 & 15- Newborn clothing (one of the mothers is 8 months pregnant).- Toys and games appropriate for same genders/ages that do not rely on ability read (primary language is Pashto; some speak Urdu also)- Any school or arts/crafts supplies – pens, paper, markers, coloring books, etc. Basic English learn-to-read books would be OK too.

2. Pam Bell has graciously organized a wider neighborhood effort detailed on this google doc if there are other way you would like to contribute. This document also includes more information on the family and their situation.

Thank you for considering,

Julie Willis
